Architectural Excellence : A school leader’s worst nightmare - a fire! The heating units caught fire burning the modular building to the ground. The original request from the customer was for a temporary classroom building to replace the destroyed structure. Limited funds and space were major factors. The IMS Team proposed a revised strategy to address the customer’s strong desire for a safer, attractive and long term facility. The new plan - a permanent modular building at a cost effective price. The school campus is on an inner city site, comprised of multistory structures of various ages and construction designs. The IMS Team designed a building that maintained the visual flow of the surrounding environment by matching the appearance of the newer addition with its decorative split-faced block exterior. The entryway of the modular school structure boasts a green metal border and triangular door peak design enhancing the building and complimenting the existing school structures.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Installing a ground level, permanent foundation building with split-faced block exterior finish and concrete sidewalks, rather than a temporary building on a temporary foundation with steps, decks and ramps was a more cost effective and energy efficient solution for the school. Adding to the value is the maintenance free nature of the exterior finish selection and concrete sidewalks vs the aforementioned temporary building. IMS’ value added design insured a safe, energy efficient, esthetically pleasing permanent school building at a cost effective price. This high quality, durable and maintenance free school building will provide many years of service.

Technical Innovation : A creative strategy was employed to install a facility in the limited and tightly defined space while school was in session. Providing a permanent school building helped allay the safety fears and concerns of a school staff that just experienced a devastating and destructive fire. The solution needed to address safety as a priority & recognize the long range need for classrooms to support the school’s enrollment. A permanent high quality school building was installed topped by a rubber roof with masonry facade. Commercial grade insulated steel exterior doors, wood with wired safety glass vision panel interior doors & heavy duty, school quality panic bars & door hardware were included. The split-faced block exterior insured a higher degree of safety, & the design enhanced the appearance of the existing multiple styles & ages of the structures on the campus. Custom trim on the modular classroom facility was matched to the style & trim of the newest building addition on the campus.
