Architectural Excellence : The U.S. Army base at Fort Bliss serves as home to a large number of maintenance crews and supply units, and as one of the Army's premier bases for test-driving tanks and other equipment. The base also houses thousands of military vehicles, among them all the equipment needed to set up Patriot missile sites.

To assist in the design and structure of the base, GE’s Modular Space division provided 522 separate units, joined to form 266 buildings which will be used as barracks, dayrooms, storage and vehicle maintenance facilities.

The modularity project at Fort Bliss is believed to be THE LARGEST ever undertaken in the industry.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Modular buildings are constructed in a controlled environment to meet national and local building codes. They are delivered to the site on carriers, skids, or permanent steel frames. Because they are complete upon delivery, they are installed in a fraction of the time required for site-built construction.

GE's modular units contributed to the Army base’s increased flexibility in meeting its housing and training initiatives as the military units who reside in those structures complete their training and preparation for missions. The quick installation of the new facilities at Fort Bliss has helped the Army get this concept underway, in a timely and realistic fashion, particularly urgent when forces are being deployed to fight the Global War on Terrorism.

The installation was completed in just 5 months, saving the U.S. military both time and money.

Technical Innovation : Each barrack unit in the base was designed to include two living quarters. Within each of those quarters are three separate rooms, a central kitchen and bathroom. Each room is furnished with new furniture, including a computer desk, television stand, dresser, lamps and a twin-size bed.

The project team had an excellent working relationship with both the US Army Corps representatives overseeing construction and the Fort Bliss / Army end-user representatives. Working together, the project team overcame design and construction challenges, and was able to leverage past experience - with the Fort Stewart project - to deliver the project both on-time and on-budget. The cross-business project management team is credited with this larger-than-life installation.
