Architectural Excellence : This building consists of (4) 14’x28’ & (2) 14’x44’ boxes that create a facility to be used as a temporary classroom. It was important that the building be aesthetically similar to existing surrounding facilities. The exterior finish is vinyl lap horizontal siding which matches in color and style. The roof has a 4/12 roof pitch to form a gable roof line with intersecting ridges for aesthetics and drainage purposes. Multiple exits allow for 2 egresses out of each classroom and egresses at each end of the corridor to provide a safe and efficient traffic flow. There is a smooth drywall finish on both ceiling and walls so students would have the same learning environment as in the permanent site buildings. Multiple windows to bring in day lighting were designed to parallel the existing setting students experience in the permanent facility. They are casement and single hung type with insulated glass as found on buildings in the rest of the campus

Cost Energy Effectiveness : As a true modular with no chassis and frame, we were able to save substantial costs for the customer by eliminating the amount of steel in the building. We also saved money by setting the building on piers rather than utilizing a full stem wall foundation.
The HVAC system was designed to utilize 50% natural ventilation and 50% mechanical ventilation which created a setting that contributes to the natural environment promoted by the school in their stance to promote a healthy, natural lifestyle for their students. Energy efficient plumbing fixtures and lighting fixtures were used to minimize utility costs. The most cost effective feature though was the decision by the school to use modular construction. The construction method had minimal impact on the site’s infrastructure by not having to move utilities, tearing up parking lots and lessened labor costs on the site.

Technical Innovation : The school is going through a major renovation and needed rotating classroom space. By using a modular building, we were able to setup a temporary classroom facility during the summer and had it ready for classes in the fall. In order to meet the architects’ desire not to have a building that looks like a trailer in the high end school environment, we built it without a steel chassis and set it on poured piers, tied in with engineered connectors. A folding gable roof system allowed us to ship it within DOT regulations and be raised up on site to meet the architects’ requirements of a pitched, gable roof with intersecting ridges.
