Architectural Excellence : A division of the US Army called Munitions and Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training Department was in need of a mobile modular laboratory building in FT Lee, VA. The exterior of the building needed to blend in with surrounding buildings and a Tan steel siding was selected. Two sets of pre-fabricated aluminum stairs were installed for access to the building. The interior of the building needed to be designed to fit the minimum conditions of the bid solicitation. Casework and cabinetry had to be a minimum of 410 cu ft, a 40 gallon water heater, fume hood / drying oven, shower eye wash station and a refrigerator were required were needed inside the mobile modular laboratory.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The modular building constructed by Mark Line Industries of PA along cabinetry, casework and equipment supplier VWR International LLC who installed their scope at the manufacturing facility accomplished the speed to occupancy requirement of the project while staying within the cost perimeters set aside to accomplish the task. The modular building was set in one day on temporary foundation pads and anchored to the ground. The pre-fabricated stairs were installed and easily able to be unbolted for relocatability. Meeting all state and local guidelines for site accessibility, along with working on an extremely safety concisions secure military facility, required an accurate design and attention to schedule coordination of activities. The project met the requirements of the scope of work and was on time and on budget.

Technical Innovation : Offsite modular construction was selected for this project so that the building could be mobile and be able to travel between different military facilities as it was needed for training purposes. Space planning was coordinated with the case work company and CAD drawings were detailed to insure that the installation of all of the furnishings and equipment were properly installed at the manufacturing facility. Finishes were selected insuring no harmful VOCs or other toxic chemicals were used. A filtered fume hoods made
Safety, energy savings, control, and infrastructure cost reduction possible. Low E window glazing as well as siding and roofing colors insured reflective features of the building to reduce energy expenditures.
