EightWest Display Centre
Additional Info
Award Winner : Metric Modular
Architectural Excellence : This 48' x 50' temporary sales centre was designed for an urban-inspired condominium and townhouse development located above first-floor retail and featured a historical timeline and photo display of the community in the model room. The display suite led to an outside balcony featuring a mockup of the exterior of one of the units and a lighted display banner behind the glass handrail with a photo of the view from the building so prospective buyers could see what the exterior of the buildings would look like and what the view would be from their balcony.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : A temporary, modular sales centre is designed, delivered and installed before construction starts on the development so the developer can pre-sell the units before he commits significant financial resources to the project. With the building shell intact, the temporary building can then be relocated and renovated for another development or sold and reused, eliminating the need to site-build a display suite that would ultimately be demolished. This sales centre was built to be relocated after twelve months at the site, however, the development sold out in one weekend so the building was moved offsite and sold to another developer after only a few months.

Technical Innovation : Four factory-built modules were used to provide the overall size required for the sales centre. A temporary pad and block wood foundation was used for a custom entry and a patio off the display suite. The building is fully heated and air conditioned using a heat pump system and in-floor ducting combined with return and supply air ducting in the crawlspace to maximize the interior room height. Structurally sized beams and columns also allow for maximum open space.
