Drill Camp
Additional Info
Award Winner : ATCO Structures & Logistics Ltd.
Architectural Excellence : Built to accommodate drilling crews and supervisors, this 159 person camp is located near Wamsutter, Wyoming. The camp consists of a VIP dorm with TV room (for supervisors), kitchen/diner, mud room, smoking lounge, recreation complex with meeting room, gym, TV rooms, internet room, laundry, clinic, commissary and camp boss office, the complex also includes 4, 38 person crew dorms.
The key objective of this camp is to improve crew retention with upgraded accommodations. Given the remote nature of the project, the winter conditions and level of comfort requested by the client, the camp was designed with cold weather specs and an upgraded package of interior/exterior materials and equipment. Each crew dorm room is single occupancy and includes carpet, individual A/C, desk/chair, locker and private shower/restroom. The VIP rooms are single occupancy with private shower/restroom. Special finishes were used to give the overall camp a “Nabors” feel.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The engineering, manufacturing and transportation process for this project was divided into five phases. To ensure ease of installation, the units included two runner skid frames which made the side-by side complexing process easier and more efficient. A secondary benefit of the skid frames is the re-usability of the camp buildings. They give added floor and structure support and make the transportation process easier and safer.
Key plumbing and electrical considerations were used to minimize installation cost and maximize functionality. All units interconnected with each other eliminating additional wiring at site. Also, because of weather considerations, bathroom floors were raised to keep plumbing from being exposed to the elements and freezing up.

Technical Innovation : Units were built to maximize living space but keep transportation costs to a minimum. Longer modules were used to achieve this. Also, to minimize installation at site, roof and floor extensions were added to each crew dorm complex eliminating the need of shipping and installing separate Permawalks. Also, for durability and ease of maintenance, an epoxy non-slip floor system was used for kitchen core and wet areas.
