Cost Energy Effectiveness : The customer’s engineering firm located in Calgary liked the fact the building was being manufactured in the same city. This proximity of the manufacturing facility led to many quick construction visits – which saved thousands in travel allocations (let alone time) as it was originally going to be built in Texas. The local construction of the building saved 6 figures in long distance hauling, too. Spending Canadian dollars – for a Canadian project provided a greater level of cost certainty as no additional currency exchanges were required.

Building off-site in conjunction with the overall site construction happening at the same time, led to increased efficiencies and allowed the project to finish quicker and thus further saving time and money.

Technical Innovation : The structural steel framed building was engineered precisely and consisted of a series of proprietary blast resistant steel panels which were produced with a great level of precision. This level of detail ensured that the most minimal level of raw material waste occurred. Additionally, the unique one-module building envelope eliminated ALL excess transportation materials (which are normally thrown away once landed at site, ready for install).

Green Building Description : Similar to technical innovation above with reduced overall material and on-site wastage.

Architectural Excellence : This highly engineered building was designed to be used in an area next to the flare knock out drum at the project site. This area had potential concern of exposure to severe elements. The building was required to withstand a fire resistance rating of at least 45 minutes. The materials required for the building had to be of a high non-combustible nature.

In order to achieve the outlined specification, we designed a totally custom, one-of-a-kind structural steel modular (off-site) constructed building.

This building featured a Distributed Control System (DCS) Engineering Room that has a secured and temperature-controlled server room to maintain the sensitive electronic systems and servers needed to control the site. Many specific site electrical, control and fire alarm components were installed into this building at the manufacturing facility. This ensured both the project site equipment and the control room building would be seamlessly integrated once installed at site.
