Additional Info
Award Winner : McDonald Modular Solutions, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : This equestrian center office was designed to capture a rustic theme throughout this 150 year old homestead farm that was donated to the Forest Preserve District many years ago and has maintained as close to its original look as possible. Architectural features include: a factory built hinged gable and shingled roof that affords a high roof slope once delivered to the site and vinyl lap siding to offer a seamless appearance. These features, combined with a wrap around deck and appropriate landscaping achieve the desired exterior theme.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : As a result of the design consideration of the appropriate higher pitched roof, we were able to make use of the enlarged cavity created and improve the R-value rating in excess of R-60. Coupled with insulated windows and doors, R-22 floor and R-15 walls the building provided a comfortable envelope.
The interior surfaces, including mill work are finished in light tones to take advantage of reflective qualities. The building was orientated on the site so that as much ambient light as possible enters the building therefore reducing lighting loads.
