Additional Info

Award Winner : Design Space Modular Buildings, Inc.

Architectural Excellence : The main entrance features a two-story lobby with Armstrong Woodworks cloud ceiling system and a large scale and back-lit stainless steel cross recessed into a custom cherry wood feature wall. 108’ long interior corridors connect 30 classrooms, including science labs and fine arts facilities, and a large multi-purpose room divisible with a folding wall. The corridors are bookended by a large exterior staircase at one end, and lobby with an interior staircase with upper balcony at the other. A stainless steel elevator is adjacent to a well-appointed conference room and teachers work rooms. Building 2 shares the exterior staircase and is joined to the main building with a modular bridge section at the second floor. Art and science rooms have open ceilings with sound panels to provide over 12’ high ceilings. The exterior features pop-out framing to provide architectural articulation to the façade. Building recognized by LCEF's Fifth Triennial Art & Architecture Award Program.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : A top priority of this customer was aesthetic beauty, although a conventional construction schedule and budget did not allow it. However, taking a true Design/Build Modular approach, the customer was able to achieve great value, receiving a beautiful, extremely well appointed building on time, for a price lower than traditional construction. With Design/Build Modular, the team was able to design as we built to ensure optimal design and no budget surprises. While the core structure was being built at the factory, endless design decisions, and even finish material and fixture pricing and selections continued throughout construction. Design dreams, cost impact and value engineering were in constant interaction throughout the project. This sort of budget finesse and schedule double dipping would have been impossible with a conventional building approach.
