Architectural Excellence : Cook Inlet Oil/Gas Platform Camp is specifically designed to fit within the space vacated by the existing 1960’s camp using D/B Modular construction. The space available for the camp was confined by existing platform process modules on 2 sides with the edge of the platform open to the ocean 200 feet below on the remaining 2 sides. A structural steel base frame was extended by cantilever over the ocean creating additional space for camp. The camp location is directly under the existing helicopter landing deck that required removal in order to accommodate camp installation. This also meant that the crews could only access the platform from the work boat hoisted up by the platform crane in lieu of helicopter access. Camp modules were loaded onto the barge which was limited to four modules per trip with each voyage coordinated with the tides. During slack tide and good weather, the modules could be hoisted by the platform crane from the barge for placement. Helicopter pad was reinstalled.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : With the limited installation window allowed by the client’s schedule and limited accommodations for a construction or set crew, the only practicable solution for the camp replacement was modular. Stick building the facility was too time and schedule consuming and really impractical for the application. The platform had 24 hours gas production operations running concurrently with the modular set, stitch and completion activities. The client’s oil/gas production crew occupied temporary camp quarters with limited accommodations for our modular set crew.

Technical Innovation : In terms of technical innovation, understanding that the platform crews work in a high risk environment including the potential for poisonous gas releases, the fire detection and alarm system was modified and enhanced to detect hydrogen sulfide, methane and carbon monoxide gasses at a ppb level that is significantly below levels harmful to humans. Upon detection, the alarm would sound and the air handling system will shut down keeping harmful gasses out of the camp thereby providing the crew an opportunity to mitigate any releases or abandon the platform.
