Architectural Excellence : Baltimore County Public Schools was in need of temporary modular classroom space to assist with over- crowding at Colgate Elementary School. The school district was concerned with the esthetics of the buildings so hardi-panel siding and a pitched roof were designed to create a cottage feel. Light colors were used for exterior paint to appear more inviting.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The building was produced in a cost effective manner to mirror similar classrooms which are installed by Baltimore County at other locations thus reducing engineering design and manufacturing time. All of the j-boxes for low voltage and fire alarm are located on one half of the modular so that the building does not need to be re-wired at each installation. One electrical point and minimal cross over wiring in the field kept the overall electrical budget down. Higher insulation levels in Ceiling (R-30) Walls (R-19) Floors (R-19) insured lower monthly utility bills and create healthier and more comfortable building environment. High performance lighting such as T-8 lighting with continuous dimming ballasts ensures high light levels, but low energy use.

Technical Innovation : Modular Genius has a current on-call contract with Baltimore County Public Schools to provide modular classrooms for lease or purchase. Because the units are designed to be relocated throughout the county from year to year, careful consideration was taken in the design of disconnecting and re-connecting all of the low voltage and fire alarms. Modular Genius installed all of the devices and ran the wire to a single connection point in the IT closet. Once on site the electric and low voltage can be found in the same location from unit to unit and can be easily reconnected.
