Architectural Excellence : The Chilean government had a vision for health care in Chile. The Centro Referencial De Salud (translated Health Reference Center) is a modular solution that provides an innovative approach to meeting the medical needs of a community. Techno Fast ATCO S.A. designed this unique medical center that could support the provisioning of sutures and has a full x-ray area. It was designed to house up to six overnight patients and has over 40 examination rooms. As per the request of the Government, the centre was designed to include a full kitchen and dining room, administrative areas and staff locker rooms. In order to make this facility feel more welcoming than a hospital, the main entrances feature a high ceiling curved with exposed gluelam wood beams. Wide open hallways and entrances were required for accessibility, and interconnected common areas were designed with panelized structural insulated panels (SIP) and gluelam wooden beams.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Insulated walls, floors and ceiling, along with thermal paned windows make this unit efficient at maintaining ideal temperatures. This was the first modular medical center purchased by the Chilean government. In addition to the cost savings of building modular, the greatest advantage is that this hospital was ready to be used more immediately than the government had scheduled. Traditional construction would have pushed the center opening a full year later.

Technical Innovation : Tecno Fast ATCO S.A. used a mix of traditional wood modular units around the perimeter with steel structural insulated panels (SIP) and gluelam beams. Due to the nature of hospital requirements, all the material used had to be very easy to sterilize and disinfect. For this reason, walls were covered by sheets of fiberglass and gypsum board.
