Burrell Field Concession Building
Additional Info
Award Winner : Meehleis Modular Building Inc
Architectural Excellence : This site was a rebuild with Meehleis Modular contracted to build four of the field buildings. The concession stand is by far the most unique and, therefore, chosen by us for this submission. This single module building is a slab on grade permanent construction. The placement of the building was crucial to the design since the sports complex wanted to be able to use the concession stand at individual or simultaneous events. The building was placed on the site in line with the fence dividing the football stadium from the baseball fields. The concession stand has custom roll up window barriers on either side of the building. Additional stationary windows were placed high to provide natural lighting. Stucco and a veneer thin brick where placed on site to give an upgraded finish.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The method of installation was an important cost saving component to the client. Due to the high cost of traditional site built construction, permanent modular buildings were the logical choice. The district chose permanent modular construction for its accelerated schedule. The overall quality of the buildings matches that of existing site construction and longevity, which only made this project more appealing to the client.

Technical Innovation : This building accommodates a large storage area with the service area to both sides of the building. Materials used included low-E windows, recycled steel and lumber from sustainable forests. The module was built in our net zero plant utilizing the plant’s solar array to generate electricity. The plant also maintains a landfill diversion rate of 85 to 95 percent every month, thus minimizing the impact to the environment.
