Architectural Excellence : Medium security prison located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Phildelphia. The modular building consists of seven modules of various sizes totaling 3,676 square feet which will house 48 inmates. The modular is designed for Use Group I-3 and type 2-B construction fully sprinklered. The building configuration had to be designed to maximize the properties footprint. The design was centered around security therefore; all walls and ceiling were reinforced with 1/2" dens deck under 5/8" gypsum taped, spackled and painted in the field. The overall appearance is designed aesthetically to blend in with institutional surroundings.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The project was design build, full turnkey which allowed the Bucks County Correctional Facility to utilize Mobilease as the design professional in addition to the contractor saving the County the 4-6 percent design fee typically charged by the Architectural firm. Besides partnering with Whitley Manufacturing who assisted a final design for the modular building, we teamed up with Honeywell International to design the most cost effective mechanical system and Folger Adams Security Inc. to design all of the locking hardware to comply with the prison's existing security requirements. In a cost saving and security measure, the modules were craned over two existing barbed wire fences instead of removing and reinstalling the fences.

Technical Innovation : The main objective of this building is security. The building consists of 16 ga. steel doors with 14 ga. steel jambs all installed with electric security which are monitored from the main prison control room. Building systems, including fire alarm, security cameras, HVAC and sprinkler are tamper proof and monitored by the prison main control room. The roof mounted 3 phase package units system includes economizers, CO2 censors, relief dampers and thermostat controlled by remote censors. The exterior finish is 26 gage steel, floor is 3" poured concrete and metal stud framing all completed at the manufacturer facility. The toilet facilities including sinks, showers, toilets, water coolers and accessories are all tamper proof prison grade. The electrical system in the modular is designed on a back-up emergency generator to eliminate loss of power during a power failure.
