Additional Info

Award Winner : NRB Modular Solutions

Architectural Excellence : This University Parking Kiosk features bronze powder-coated aluminum framing members and dry-stacked stone finish, together these features provide an attractive appearance. The cultured stone was selected specifically by the client to harmonize with the local Niagara Escarpment Commission landscape requirements. A perimeter roof band/parapet/overhang provides solar protection and provides an area to pick up the University’s signage and color scheme. The service windows are a combination of tinted glazing and dark spandrel panels to provide a more open appearance. Plastic-laminate millwork and counter tops were included to meet the space-saving design requirements including upper storage cabinets over counter. The raised disk rubber flooring is durable, non-slip and color coordinated.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Series PAK-III Kiosk walls are fabricated from NRB stock aluminum extrusions that are structurally pre-engineered for their intended use in this type of application. Exterior cladding panels are manufactured in house by NRB which often means a quicker turnaround in fabrication time than when outsourcing major components. Once completed the kiosk is loaded, delivered and set down on a concrete pad, ready to go with a single electrical connection. To help reduce energy consumption, the perimeter overhang on this booth along with the tinted glazing, spandrel panels and interior roller shades all work together to reduce solar gain.

Technical Innovation : The aluminum frame provides a durable and rust proof structural system that supports the upper roof system while doubling as a ‘slim-line’ window frame. A welded steel tube floor structure is hot-dipped galvanized after fabrication to prevent corrosion from moisture and winter salt conditions that are prevalent in a northern climate. Centrally located internal roof drains remove rain water and air conditioner discharge from the recessed roof assembly. The stone exterior wall finish is adhered to mechanically fastened masonry mesh with a continuous self-adhering moisture barrier behind it. All exterior finishes were preinstalled before the kiosk was shipped to the site.
