Brierty 100 Person Plug & Stay Camp
Additional Info
Award Winner : Black Diamond Group
Architectural Excellence : Black Diamond Group Australia’s existing camp fleet consisted of underground infrastructure which meant higher upfront costs and a longer install time for customers. By renovating existing fleet to an above-ground, mobile infrastructure, the Plug & Stay Camp provides quick installation, lower costs and a safer install. Located in Western Australia, the Brierty 100 Person Plug & Stay Camp is a cost effective ready-to-go solution which was integrated into the Read Construction project’s existing hire fleet. Water, power and wastewater were all designed to run above ground, giving access to visual maintenance checks allowing visibility into any connections that need addressing, and increasing workplace safety. This multi-functional 51 module 2183 meters squared camp is equipped with gymnasium and wetmess, and is complete with comfortable and spacious private dorms with attached ensuite washrooms, cable TV, mini fridges and bedroom storage for maximum privacy and comfort.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The Plug & Stay camp was installed in a total of 17 days. This allowed for minimal downtime, maximizing productivity by reducing upfront capital cost for the camp install. Eliminating any buried infrastructure that is typically required for a camp install, a faster install schedule and a reduced install workforce were all major factors that contributed to cost savings.

Technical Innovation : The Plug & Stay was designed to have piping and power cabling run above ground, minimizing install time. Wastewater is harnessed to a single point of exit, where it is connected to a macerator. The pipework is designed to be a modular reusable system, eliminating the use of glued fittings to achieve faster disconnection and reconnection. From the macerator the wastewater is pumped to a sewage pump system, and then onto the wastewater treatment plant. Power is supplied through a plug in utility skid which has the provision for an 80 person plus additional 40 person electrical distribution board, 2 No 150 Kva gensets, water storage and pumps and diesel storage. Cabling is run on a cable ladder and reticulated to designated points of connection. Region D IL2 installation was achieved in this design using an in ground earth anchor system which reduces the requirement for augured concrete piles. Rapid demobilization of the camp also ensures minimal impact on the environment.
