Architectural Excellence : Because the location of this unit is located on the Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada mountain range outside of Bridgeport, CA, the structure and foundation was upgraded to handle 120 psf snow loads. Even though this building is temporary, the architectural features incorporated elements from the existing structures on site enabling it to blend in seamlessly and not appear nor function like a temporary facility. These features included a 1.5-12 slope roof, baked enamel colored standing seam roof panels, and overhangs on all four sides of building. The interior features include a high security weapons room, high security evidence room, conference room and multiple administrative offices. It is also designed to meet California's WUI (Wildland Urban Interface) codes, and included fire resistive finishes.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This project required a relocatable, temporary building. The Military Police were responsible for ensuring safety and security design requirements were maintained. Therefore, careful collaboration was implemented with them on design elements to create an environment that addressed all their facility requirements. The building also had to meet their budget requirements. Factory construction provided a good solution because the structure was built within a defined schedule, in a controlled environment, and delivered substantially complete to a remote area where labor and materials are not readily available. Other building features that added both improved function and efficiency included, upgraded building insulation, dual glazed tempered glass windows, gas fired HVAC units, and heavy floor loads. This temporary building provided a quick, cost effective solution to on-site construction without compromising on quality or function.

Technical Innovation : To facilitate the 120 psf roof load, the Walden factory carefully located structural supports and designed around the customer’s floor plan. The result, all structural elements were hidden within walls and above the ceiling line without compromise to floor plan or continuity of interior finishes. Since the site electrical power was limited, a Bard, high efficiency gas heating units was utilized as opposed to electric heat units. The entire building is wired for phone, data, fire and security to a central, self contained, server unit within the building.
