Award Winner : Aries Building Systems, LLC

Architectural Excellence : The entire Bridge Elementary School was damaged by flood and the school board called in Aries Building Systems to design, fabricate and install the best-quality modular campus facilities for over 778 displaced students in the area. The district needed to quickly and affordably replace the old structures with new temporary classroom modules while new facilities are designed and constructed. Speed was a key factor throughout the project and the inspecting representatives agreed that the modular buildings were a step up from the old, single-classroom trailers that have traditionally been used. The entire structure comprises a number of 14-foot by 60-foot units combined to create each complex, all modular structures were placed on high flood proof footings to eliminate the risk of flood damage. Aries installed all interior finishes including carpet, tile, and custom wall paint throughout each building, creating unique classrooms, offices, and hallway spaces.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The entire 11,108 sq. ft. facility is 100% modular with 90% of modules completeness when leaving the factory. The entire project was completed in record time without sacrificing quality and style to meet the deadline for the start of school. The project deadline allowed just 33 days for the necessary module design components, 60 days for fabrication and 30 days for delivery, installation and finishing. The modules were designed with relocation and reusability in mind, should the permanent structures be completed. The building’s modular design ensures reduced maintenance costs, and increases the lifespan of the buildings. Each module can be easily expanded with additional modules to create extra office space when needed.

Project Location State Name : WV

Technical Innovation : As a result of the floods, the entire installation site had to be developed up to specification before work could begin. Aries Building Systems commenced to designing a fully functioning modular campus to accommodate the displaced students from Bridge Elementary School. While the installation site underwent re-development, fabrication of buildings, walkways, canopies, and parts commenced. Several innovative enhancements such as low E coatings on windows to suppress heat flow were implemented. Each HVAC unit is also equipped with heat pumps. The factory-built modules were then were transported via Aries Building Systems truck and trailer systems and installed on temporary block and pad wood foundation to minimize on-site disruption. All work and materials used conform to FEMA guidelines for a temporary modular construction so the entire facility can be removed or repurposed once the permanent school is completed.
