Architectural Excellence : The Bensalem Police Department K9 building layout consists of indoor and outdoor dog kennels, dog wash stations, linens, and uniform wash and dry station, office, and a contraband detection training room; The modular is used for K9 training and temporary housing for Bensalem's K9 officers. The customer requested the building to be understated in appearance, due to the nature of its use. The K9 modular building sits next to a public park and the townships maintenance building. Planning was critical to ensure a minimized the gap from when the existing building was demolished, and the new building was complete.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Corlon heat welded flooring and trough drains were used so employees could hose down the kennels without negative impact. FRP boards for most of the walls to ensure a non-porous surface for cleaning. Trap doors were installed in the floor to access under the building. LED lighting was installed throughout. By using modular construction, the township saved valuable time and money caring for their K9 officers.
