Bellingham Airport
Additional Info
Award Winner : Pacific Mobile Structures, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : This building featured painted, vertical groove T-111 siding, a tall horizontal mansard with low-slope roof, duro-last membrane roofing, and large tinted windows. The interior utilized steel clear-span roof supports for maximum flexibility, 8’ interior T-grid ceilings, and vinyl-covered sheetrock interior walls. Once the building was installed, the building was repainted, exterior lights were installed, new floor covering was installed and a handicapped ramp was erected.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This temporary Airport terminal was exceptionally cost-effective for the client. The building was a 10 year old structure that had been maintained very well, and was purchased below their project budget allowance. Additionally, the structure required very few modifications for their intended use, saving additional funds, and provided a much faster move-in date than anticipated. Energy efficiency was achieved due to the use of dual glazed, low-e exterior windows, wall-hung heatpumps and insulation values of R11 (walls), R21 (floor), and R25 (roof).

Technical Innovation : This project was a classic example of the speed and efficiency which modular construction can offer to clients. The building was dismantled and moved from another site directly to the Bellingham Airport tarmac, saving time. The building and roof was installed very quickly (in under 5 days), even though it was a week prior to Christmas. This allowed the client to complete their on-site responsibilities ahead of schedule, speeding up their projected opening date.
