Architectural Excellence : The Beacon Ranch at Pheasant Crossings project consists of three home designs constructed to house workers and families serving the oil industry within that area. Although intended to be an affordable and efficient design, the architect was able to achieve an interesting mix of interior features and architectural accents that elevated the home design to a more stylish and classic look. These features – atypical of what’s usually found in quick, turn-key housing solutions – included an en suite bathroom in each bedroom, built-in entertainment centers, 9’ ceilings on the first floor, covered porches and attached garages.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : Champion’s modular solution ensured the highest building standards were applied at each stage of construction while using the best performing, affordable materials. Its rigorous inspection process certified each floor coming out of the production line exceeded mandatory building standards, mitigating any need for additional work during installation and eliminating service calls. At the same time site contractors worked the winter months on foundations and utilities, the factory completed the 72 modules needed for 12 two-story and 6 single-story duplex designs. Start to finish, the project was completed within seven months. Had the investor chosen traditional on-site construction, the project would have run through a second winter, incurring more costs. The accelerated build process saved the investors money by decreasing construction lending and insurance costs. All units were available for lease 6 months faster than site construction methods thus creating income sooner.

Technical Innovation : While the homes were to be installed on narrow lots in a high density area, each floor plan is designed to maximize the outdoor and indoor space without compromising families’ lifestyles. Through its tightly controlled manufacturing process, Champion is able to construct tighter structures with less air infiltration. As a result, Champion-built structures have proven to be more energy efficient than comparable structures built using traditional site-build construction methods and thereby meet North Dakota’s energy standards. Champion’s modular construction process also incorporates the use of some recycled/recovered materials and employs building practices that reduce waste materials.
