Additional Info
Award Winner : Satellite Shelters, Inc.
Architectural Excellence : The buildings were comprised of (4) 14’x72’ modules with a custom floor plan that provided an open classroom environment.
Each classroom was provided with cabinetry and counters around the perimeter to provide storage and a work surface for the projects assigned to the students.
Colors were chosen in earth tones to compliment the natural environment in Colorado with a dark exterior siding and roof shingle colors to take advantage of the solar heat transference in this climate.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The climate in Colorado required upgraded building specifications with 2”x6” exterior wall studs with a continuous air infiltration barrier and R-19 insulation. The roof system was provided with a vapor barrier and R-38 insulation.
Wall mounted HVAC units were provided with 15kw heat strips and 3 ton air-conditioners with commercial room ventilators.
The two buildings were installed on the site with a common entry that reduced the amount of wind and weather in the front doors.
