Cost Energy Effectiveness : Teaming up with DPR Construction to create a modular visitor’s center was a cost effective solution as well as a time efficient way to handle the project. The Williams Scotsman Durham branch and Modular Building Group collaborated to provide a design and building solution that met all the requirements of the owner. Once contracts were finalized, Kings Custom Builders was able to put the modular structure – single box, 16’ x 45’ – on line in February, deliver in early March, and ready for a May completion. Site work completed on the modular includes installation of all windows, exterior siding, setting the pad mount HVAC, as well as the roof/stem wall.
Architectural Excellence : The single box (16’ x 45’) provides a simple but dramatic Visitor’s Center at Bayer Crop Science. Full length windows along much of the modular’s exterior ensure an abundance of natural light will flood the interior with welcoming light. The building itself is set at a grade with extensive landscaping and sidewalks that provide an attractive setting with ease of access to the building. A site built roof with an exaggerated overhang on two sides adds to the drama of the building’s exterior. Steracor aluminum cladding was chosen to match an existing facility exterior. Inside, custom built cabinetry/millwork, special lighting, 9’ high ceilings and painted gypsum walls and steel doors provide the finishing touches to a building that is a visitor’s important first impression of the Bayer Crop Science campus.

Technical Innovation : Williams Scotsman was approached by an existing customer, DPR Construction, to team up with them to provide a modular visitor’s center for Bayer Crop Science in Durham, NC. Bayer personnel were very familiar with modular construction and indicated that modular construction was their preferred method of building.
