Architectural Excellence : The Astoria two story office, located in New York State, utilized “one trip” sea containers that were architecturally, structurally and mechanically converted into a multi story, multi use, dual powered and high speed communication administration facility. The fabrication goal was to implement typical mobile modular systems that integrated with the size integrity of the sea container philosophy for worldwide shipping capability. The design philosophy was each module was to be 100% complete architecturally so the plug and play philosophy on the mechanical system could truly be utilized. The floor plan consists of private offices for management, bull pen type of areas for clerical and accounting staff. The two story configuration allows for separate entry and exiting in the event separate contractor office space is required.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : The infrastructure cost of a “one trip” sea container coupled with state of the art welding and paint strategies assured the base module cost was less than a traditional wood framed structure. As alluded to earlier, a finished product in standardized ISO sea container parameters were the minimum with today’s reliance on global sea container shipping logistics. The dual powered P-TAC heat and cool units are 90% Energy Efficient on either 50 or 60 cycle power and provide ambient temperature in extremes from -40 degrees to +40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Technical Innovation : The formidable task of retrofitting a totally compliant ISO sea container into office space with clear span area was achieved with the installation of structurally integral steel post and beam components. Once installed, the structural integrity of the vertical and lateral load bearing is confirmed with ISO approved steel mechanical fasteners at both vertical and horizontal load points. The major task of designing a dual electrical and heat/cool system was accomplished with advanced electrical systems designed and installed for worldwide usage. Essentially, and alluded to in Architectural Excellence, the complex is plug and play in either a 50 or 60 cycle power configuration.
