Architectural Excellence : This modular building project was an essential temporary replacement constructed on the campuses of four flood-damaged public schools. The buildings are comprised of a complex integration of more than 270 sections that when put together create separate large buildings with interior hallways, water fountains and restrooms and approximately 150 classrooms where the flood-damaged school campuses were formerly located. Aries Building Systems provided all finishing used throughout each modular building, creating appealing classrooms, offices, and hallways. The goal was to create a campus whose components and assemblies are efficient and structurally sound from a maintenance perspective. The buildings are constructed with renewable finishes throughout and a selection of the interior and exterior finishes are designed to stand up to the rigors of learning children.

Cost Energy Effectiveness : Aries Building Systems proved to be the best affordable solution for temporary high-quality modular classrooms to meet the deadline for the start of school. This project involved high levels of coordination between all the teams involved to include several cost-effective building features that were attractive to the school board. The entire modular construction was prefabricated in an offsite factory and transported in 213 sections including over 75,000 square feet of elevated canopies and walkways to the campus where utility connections, fire alarm and communications systems installation, procurement and installation of a fully commercial kitchen were carried out. All finishes used during construction are renewable, contributing to lower maintenance costs, and nearly double the lifespan of a standard relocatable classroom.

Technical Innovation : As a result of the flood that damaged past structures, Aries Building Systems worked closely with the Architect, factory, and user to develop an affordable, sustainable and flood-proof building solution. Each unit is made of connected T-building sections that hold 32 full-sized classrooms and two smaller ones, creating a functioning campus to accommodate over 5,000 displaced students. As a temporary solution to floods in the area, the school board was not only looking for a sustainable option, but a relocatable one as well and the innovative modular design increases the flexibility of the buildings, reduced the dreaded infrastructure time and environmental impact. When the main campus undergoes renovations in the coming years, these modular classrooms will be relocated and this was taken into consideration during the design phase.
