Architectural Excellence : The single story classroom building was designed to blend with the existing campus buildings that were site constructed. Contextually, the exterior envelope matches by using 3 coat exterior cement plaster with aluminum accent reveals and a 2: 12 pitched standing seam metal roof. These material choices will allow for low maintenance and durability. Additionally, to ensure a durable building, the floor assembly is composed of a composite metal deck and concrete and a poured in place concrete foundation.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : The bathrooms are configured adjacent to one another to allow more efficient use of the plumbing water supply and waste lines installed. The standing seam metal roofing is a lighter color that lowers the insolation value reflecting more heat and radiation as well as reducing the HVAC loading for the building.

Technical Innovation : The installed mechanical system is a split system with a heat pump compressor. There were many advantages of using this system for this application. One of the primary benefits was the ability to isolate the compressor from the building to reduce the acoustical interference with the interior teaching environment. Secondly the air handling unit was a ceiling plenum unit that allowed more usable space for the interior spaces. Thirdly, the compressor utilized a non-ozone depleting refrigerant.
The interior bathrooms were designed to be used by both classrooms thereby reducing the number bathrooms installed from four to two that allowed more interior space for teaching.
