Architectural Excellence : A.L. Gilbert was in need of a compact, energy-efficient scale house that could be delivered to their jobsite within ten days. Due to the tight turnaround, Pacific Mobile opted to renovate an existing mobile office. This decision not only provided the customer with fast delivery but low-cost reconfiguration and a vast amount of flexibility as well. A 12’ x 56’ mobile office was modernized to include a 26-gauge galvanized standing seam roof, Duratemp® exterior siding, and custom canvas awnings. The interior of the building was reconfigured to include a control room, breakroom, and 8’ coffee bar. Many of the buildings components were upgraded including the addition of high-end commercial linoleum, a suspended T-Grid ceiling, recessed 2’ x 4’ lights, granite service counters and white luan paneling interior wall finish.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : A.L. Gilbert required a cost-effective, energy-efficient building, and utilizing an existing mobile office was the perfect solution. Reusing an existing building for this project reduced the amount of waste that was generated, which is a great example of sustainability provided by modular construction. The building was completely remodeled as site work was concurrently happening, thus allowing for delivery of the building much sooner than would be possible with the use of traditional construction processes. Onsite construction activity was reduced at the site, minimizing disruptions and impacts to the customer’s site, and labor requirements onsite were minimized allowing for a significant cost-savings with less labor cost and waste generation altogether. Occupancy sensors with auto-dimming features were installed in every room and auto shutdown outlets to minimize the amount of electricity used.

Technical Innovation : The customer sought a building that looked permanent but could easily be relocated if necessary. To meet this requirement, the building was manually skated in place and positioned between two prerformed concrete walls within a 30” pit, with 3” of clearance on both sides. This process allowed for the building to sit at ground level and give the appearance of having zero gaps between the building and the surrounding concrete walls. Two custom 48” x 36” sliding ticket windows were installed alongside each other at one end of the unit, to allow for truckers to come up to the windows and obtain their paperwork after being weighed.
