Architectural Excellence : This permanent operations camp is located near the isolated hamlet of Conklin, Alberta, in western Canada, where it provides comprehensive amenities for 90 staff. Its design emphasizes the concept of making life in camp both enjoyable and supportive.
The core is made to look especially comfortable with its upscale lodge atmosphere. It uses an interior post and beam style with a truss roof to provide the aesthetically pleasing appearance of a permanent, secure dwelling for its residents. The open dining area, catered by a large commercial kitchen, has hardwood floors and oversized windows to allow abundant daylight and occupant views. Custom feature floor tiles in the lobby, two tone walls with chair rails and Second Look tiles in the ceilings present a refined look.
Onsite personnel enjoy large hotel-style bedrooms with flat-screen, high-definition TVs and private washrooms. Recreational amenities include a high-end fitness area, theater room, games room, and a stone fireplace.
Cost Energy Effectiveness : This camp meets the market`s demands for efficiency. To conserve energy and water, each dormitory wing has one hot water tank with a recirculating pump. Bathrooms feature dual flush toilets to provide even more significant water consumption savings. Individual, highly resourceful and quiet PTAC units in bedrooms, entail both less expensive installation and more efficient energy usage than central heating or cooling systems. The truss roof also provides additional insulation.
The site`s construction was completed in only five months, including the auxiliary structural work of the truss roof.

Technical Innovation : Modular units had to be trucked 1,500 kilometres to their staging area. With poor soil conditions prevailing at this location, the units were then craned onto a permanent pile foundation. The engineered truss roof was installed on site. The post and beam look allowed ease of junctioning between modules.
The camp`s location in remote Canada requires it to withstand long, cold winters and short, hot summers. The camp`s materials and construction will endure temperatures ranging from minus 50 degrees Farenheit to 100 degrees Fahrenheit and facilitate any required maintenance. The building incorporates a state-of-the-art sprinkler system as an active fire protection measure.
The site is designed future-ready for an anticipated conversion from propane to natural gas, and bedrooms are fitted with individually controlled PTAC units for heating and cooling.
