Job Description
The Senior Engineering Manager will manage a cross-functional manufacturing engineering team made up of structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinkler designers. Responsibilities include ensuring compliance with office standards and project requirements. This role involves collaboration with senior team members across the organization and external stakeholders to optimize project delivery and execution.
Responsibilities:
- Work as an integrated design and engineering team with Senior Design Associate (SDA) to ensure faithful and profitable execution of VBC Projects under direction of Project Executive and in collaboration with designated manufacturing and construction teams
- Manage, track, and report on project progress and schedule utilizing standard Design and Engineering reporting methodology (D+E schedules, productization score, module matrix, etc)
- Delegate modeling, drafting, and documentation production to direct reports
- Manage, coordinate, and review engineering deliverables generated by project members for conformity with documented office standards (including engineering BOM deliverables)
- Review and manage technical deliverables from engineering sub-consultants for conformity with documented office standards while maintaining project specific requirements
- Manage and review engineering specific file management to ensure conformity with office standards
- Generate and record responses to internal and external customer RFIs, revisions, comments, and requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner
- Support and assist Senior D+E Studio Staff in proposing alternate means and methods and code interpretations for review with Chief Design Officer, manufacturing, construction, consultant teams and external code bodies as required
- Research and advise on new product, specification, or specialized detail development under the direction of Chief Design Offer and in consultation with Product Engineer and other senior D+E Studio staff
- Collaborate with Senior D+E Studio staff to create standards related to RFIs and/or team requests
- Collaborate with Senior D+E Studio staff for DfMA cross training for design and engineering staff
- Request and review or develop for review standard details for training, mock-up, and documentation in collaboration with architectural SEA and senior manufacturing team
- Propose revisions and improvements to BIM manuals, procedures, Revit template updates and other items as required for incorporation into office modeling and documentation standards
- Develop and document engineering specific training and quality assurance procedures and SOPs
- Conduct periodic project site and | or factory visits and document construction and | or manufacturing progress to ensure compliance with project documentation
- Support and enforce strategies that will help meet the needs of and improve the level of service to internal and external Customers
- Manage, coordinate, and record responses to internal and external Customer comments and requests in a professional, timely, and courteous manner
- Manage, document, and approve deviations from VBC product and construction standards for integration into project model and documentation
- Foster positive relationships with third party, code, and approval bodies
- Support manufacturing team with updates to respective Quality Assurance Manuals
Qualifications
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in design, construction, or professional degree in Architecture required; master’s degree preferred
- Engineering, Architecture, and | or Construction experience required
- 15 Years of experience required, with 6 years directly managing a team
- DfMA (design for manufacturing and assembly) familiarity required
- AutoCAD and Revit proficiency required
- Microsoft Office Suite proficiency required
- Bluebeam Revu proficiency preferred
- Foundational knowledge of International Building Codes and local code adaptations for regional markets assigned
- Foundational knowledge of structural and MEP design
- Positive attitude and be able to lead a diverse team
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Ability to manage and communicate with remote teams
- Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
- Independent problem-solver andthrive in a fast-paced work environment
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position is $113,000 - $135,000 annual base salary + annual performance bonus. We also off the following benefits:
