Job Description:
The Manager of Materials will be a strong people leader, involved in the entire lifecycle of material receipt, inventory management, and warehouse management to ensure seamless production operations. This role drives operational excellence by ensuring that the right materials are in the right place at the right time and works closely with their procurement partners. With a focus on innovation and continuous improvement, this role is critical to achieving organizational efficiency, maintaining cost control, and supporting the company’s overall success.
Receiving & Storage Management
- Supervise the receipt of raw materials, components, and supplies
- Ensure proper documentation, inspection, and quality verification upon arrival
- Implement best practices for storage, organization, and material handling to prevent damage and loss
Strategic Materials Management
- Maintain accurate inventory records in SAP, and ensure timeliness of transactions
- Conduct regular cycle counts and annual physical inventory audits.
- Implement strategies to optimize inventory levels, reduce waste, and prevent stockouts or excess holding costs. Develop efficient internal processes for moving materials within the facility
- Collaborate with the Factory Purchasing Manager and Supply Chain leadership to forecast and manage material procurement
Inventory Control and Optimization
- Direct and manage inventory control processes to ensure accuracy and sufficiency for production needs.
- Monitor in-factory material inventory levels to avoid overstock or shortages.
- Lead initiatives to minimize waste and obsolescence through effective inventory management practices.
- Leverage data analytics to track material usage trends and make informed inventory decisions.
- Analyze data from systems to produce key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive process improvements.
Compliance & Safety:
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations, safety standards, and company policies.
- Train and enforce proper material handling procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Lead initiatives to improve sustainability and waste reduction in material usage.
Continuous Improvement and Collaboration
- Provide guidance and coaching to develop team members’ skills and advance their professional growth.
- Identify and lead lean manufacturing and process improvement initiatives to enhance material flow and cost efficiency.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures to optimize materials management without compromising quality or safety.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and leadership teams to ensure material availability aligns with project timelines.
- Drive innovation in material sourcing and management strategies to achieve competitive advantages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in materials management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role, leading a team in a similar capacity.
- Strong knowledge of materials planning, inventory control, and supply chain processes.
- Proficiency in ERP systems such as SAP
- Proven experience in lean manufacturing, cost management, and process improvement initiatives.
- Excellent leadership, coaching, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong project management and analytical abilities.
- Familiarity with ISO standards, QMS practices, and regulatory compliance, including EPA and OSHA guidelines.
- APICS CPIM certification preferred.
Additional Information
The Salary Range for this position is $139,000 - $176,000 annual base salary + annual performance bonus. We also off the following benefits:
