Based in Boise, Idaho, Guerdon specializes in custom modular construction designed to meet client specifications, architectural requirements, and applicable building codes.
The Electrical Design Engineer is a key member of Guerdon’s Engineering Department and is responsible for the engineering and design of electrical systems supporting modular construction projects. This role is vital in driving project success across diverse sectors, including multifamily, affordable housing, hospitality, and mid-rise projects. The Electrical Design Engineer will leverage engineering expertise to develop effective and constructible electrical solutions while ensuring compliance with applicable building codes, the National Electrical Code (NEC), project requirements, and industry standards. The position works closely with architects, engineers, project managers, consultants, production teams, subcontractors, clients, and other stakeholders to deliver coordinated construction documents from concept through construction.
Responsibilities:
- Perform electrical design for a variety of modular construction projects across multifamily, affordable housing, hospitality, workforce housing, and light commercial sectors.
- Develop electrical designs and contract drawings from schematic design through construction documents.
- Apply engineering principles to the design of electrical distribution, power, lighting, and related electrical systems.
- Develop electrical layouts, one-line diagrams, schedules, details, and other construction documentation using Revit and related design software.
- Perform engineering calculations and equipment selection appropriate to project requirements.
- Independently evaluate design alternatives and apply sound engineering judgment, techniques, and procedures to resolve complex design challenges.
- Design electrical systems with consideration for modular manufacturing, transportation, installation, field conditions, constructability, and project-specific requirements.
- Review construction documents, architectural plans, specifications, and other project information to identify design requirements, conflicts, and opportunities for improvement.
- Apply knowledge of the NEC and applicable building codes, standards, and regulations to electrical design.
- Develop practical, cost-effective, energy-efficient, and sustainable design solutions where appropriate.
- Maintain a high level of technical quality and accuracy in electrical designs and construction documents.
- Proactively stay current with changes to building codes, NEC requirements, electrical technologies, energy-efficiency practices, and industry standards.
- Identify opportunities to improve electrical design processes, documentation, coordination, and modular construction practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within the Engineering Department.
- Provide technical guidance and support to Electrical Designers and other team members as appropriate.
- Contribute to a collaborative, multidisciplinary engineering environment.
- Participate in department and company meetings while maintaining compliance with company policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience within the building construction industry.
- Demonstrated experience designing electrical systems for commercial, multifamily, hospitality, or similar building projects.
- Proficient in Revit, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong understanding and working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable building codes and standards.
- Experience developing electrical construction documents from schematic design through construction documents.
- Experience modeling electrical systems and developing coordinated construction documents in Revit.
- Strong understanding of electrical power distribution, lighting, and building electrical systems.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to technical accuracy.
- Experience coordinating electrical designs with other building disciplines.
- Experience with modular construction, wood framing, or other prefabricated building systems preferred.

Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and reach, stoop kneel.
