SALLY PODS USA INC.
Director of Business Development — Modular Construction
Sally Pods USA Inc. | Los Angeles, California
Job Overview
Sally Pods USA is seeking a hands-on Director of Business Development to originate new opportunities for prefabricated bathroom pods in the U.S. multifamily, hospitality, and affordable-housing markets.
The successful candidate will build relationships with developers, owners, general contractors, architects, and other construction decision-makers. This person will lead customer relationships from initial introduction through opportunity qualification, proposal development, negotiation, and contract signing. After contract award, the director will remain the senior customer relationship owner while Sally Pods’ technical and operational teams lead project execution.
Sally Pods is currently advancing its California certification and U.S. market launch. This role offers the opportunity to work directly with the CEO and help establish the company’s early customer base in the United States.
This is initially a hands-on individual-contributor role without responsibility for managing an existing sales team.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and originate modular bathroom opportunities in multifamily, hospitality, affordable housing, and other suitable construction markets.
- Build relationships with developers, owners, general contractors, architects, construction managers, consultants, and procurement leaders.
- Generate opportunities through direct outreach, referrals, industry relationships, conferences, project intelligence, and strategic partnerships.
- Identify projects early enough to influence design, specification, procurement, and delivery decisions.
- Qualify opportunities based on customer readiness, project timing, pod volume, product fit, commercial potential, and execution risk.
- Lead customer relationships throughout the business-development process.
- Coordinate with the CEO and internal teams on presentations, proposals, pricing, schedules, and commercial terms.
- Advance qualified opportunities through negotiation and contract signing.
- Remain the senior relationship owner after contract award and help develop repeat and portfolio-level opportunities.
- Maintain accurate opportunity records, next steps, and forecasts in the company’s CRM.
- Represent Sally Pods at industry conferences, trade shows, project meetings, and customer events.
- Provide market feedback concerning customer needs, competitors, pricing, and barriers to modular adoption.
Role Scope
The Director of Business Development is responsible for originating opportunities and leading customer relationships. The position is not expected to personally perform engineering, code review, estimating, field inspections, or day-to-day project management.
Sally Pods’ technical and project teams will evaluate product configuration, code compliance, technical feasibility, logistics, installation requirements, and execution planning. The director will coordinate these resources during the sales process and communicate effectively with customers.
Qualifications
Required
- Seven or more years of relevant experience in construction business development, building-products sales, design-build, real estate development, off-site construction, or a related project-based industry.
- Demonstrated success personally originating new business and developing relationships with construction-industry decision-makers.
- Experience advancing complex, long-cycle opportunities involving developers, owners, general contractors, architects, consultants, and procurement teams.
- An existing network—or a demonstrated ability to build one—among relevant construction and development organizations.
- Ability to identify decision-makers, understand project requirements, navigate procurement processes, and maintain momentum through extended sales cycles.
- Strong relationship-management, presentation, negotiation, and follow-up skills.
- Experience maintaining opportunity records and forecasts in a CRM.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Ability to work from the Los Angeles area office two to three days per week.
- Willingness to travel approximately 30–50%.
Preferred
- Experience in modular construction, prefabrication, bathroom pods, building systems, or construction products.
- Experience serving multifamily, hospitality, affordable-housing, student-housing, or senior-living projects.
- Existing relationships with developers, general contractors, architects, owners, or construction executives in California and other major U.S. markets.
- Familiarity with California construction practices, building codes, permitting, and contractor-licensing requirements.
- Experience introducing a new construction product or building system to the U.S. market.
- Experience working with international manufacturing or supply-chain teams.
- Mandarin Chinese proficiency is a plus but is not required.
- An active California contractor license is a plus but is not required.
Compensation
- Base salary: $100,000–$120,000 per year
- Target annual incentive: Approximately $80,000–$100,000 at target performance
- Target total cash compensation: Approximately $200,000 per year
Final compensation will depend on experience, qualifications, and the agreed performance plan.
Performance incentives will be governed by a written plan and may consider qualified opportunities, signed contracts, committed pod volume, gross-margin requirements, customer deposits, collected revenue, and strategic-account growth.
Location and Travel
This is a full-time hybrid position based in the Los Angeles area. The employee is expected to work from the company’s Los Angeles-area office approximately two to three days per week and travel approximately 30–50% for customer meetings, conferences, and project-related activities.
Application Questions
Applicants should be prepared to address the following:
- What percentage of your recent role involved originating new business rather than managing existing accounts?
- Describe a construction or building-products opportunity you personally originated and helped secure.
- What types of relationships do you currently maintain with developers, owners, general contractors, or architects?
- Are you able to work from the Los Angeles area office two to three days per week?
