Associate Director of Inspection - Indiana

Job Summary: The Associate Director of Inspections is a leadership role that oversees inspection operations in the assigned part of a region (Western, Central, or Eastern). The Associate Director ensures that all modular and manufactured home inspections comply with regulatory standards, are performed accurately, and meet company quality expectations. This position directly manages inspection teams, reviews inspection reports, and ensures efficient scheduling and completion of inspections. Working in cooperation with the Director of Inspections, the Associate Director also oversees the continuous training and required certification of inspectors, reviews expenses, and drives the implementation of training and operational improvements.

Staff Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Daily supervision of assigned inspection teams

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Management of Inspection Operations
  • Lead and manage all daily inspection activities within the assigned region, ensuring inspections are conducted timely, effectively, and in full compliance with relevant regulations and company standards.
  • Perform off-site modular inspections, particularly during peak periods or when specialized expertise is required.
  • Perform off-site manufactured home inspections which require strict adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Inspections to oversee the scheduling of inspections across the assigned part of the region to ensure full task coverage.
  • Proactively manage scheduling conflicts and allocate resources to consistently meet deadlines.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Inspections to resolve scheduling or resource challenges.
  • Inspection Report Review and Quality Control
  • Supervise inspectors to ensure processes and reports meet regulatory requirements.
  • Review inspection reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with regulations.
  • Ensure all findings are thoroughly documented and meet company standards.
  • Provide inspectors with feedback to help them improve the quality of their reports, as necessary.
  • Conduct regular reviews of inspection processes to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Support inspectors’ professional development through feedback, mentoring, and annual performance reviews.
  • Expense Report Oversight
  • Monitor and manage regional inspection expenses to adhere to company standards.
  • Review expense reports, providing feedback to both inspectors and the Director of Inspections on cost reduction and optimization.
  • Report on regional expenses and address discrepancies or trends with the Director of Inspections.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Training
  • Stay informed on changes to state and federal building codes, HUD regulations, and industry standards.
  • Ensure inspectors are promptly updated on regulation changes and their inspections reflect the latest requirements.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Inspections to conduct localized training for inspectors based on regional needs.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Inspections to implement training initiatives to address knowledge gaps and enhance readiness for inspections.
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Inspections to develop resources aligned with current industry standards and internal procedures.
  • Strategic Alignment
  • Assist the Executive Management Team deliver a consistent message throughout the company.
  • Align regional operations with the company’s broader goals for modular and manufactured home inspections.
  • Gather client and staff feedback for report to the Director of Inspections.
  • Provide regular updates for the Director of Inspections on regional performance, challenges, and successes.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Inspections to address operational issues and implement regional improvements.
  • Lead the rollout of new processes or tools, ensuring seamless integration.

Required Certifications: 

  • Minimum Requirements: Associate Directors must have at least 50% of the following ICC Inspector Certifications in building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, accessibility, and energy for both residential and commercial disciplines and be willing to pursue the remaining certifications within 12 months of accepting the position. Please note that additional state-specific certifications may also be required depending on regional needs and changing requirements.
  • Equivalent Experience: Significant off-site experience (5+ years) and completion of at least 50% of the required certifications, may be considered sufficient for the role, while working as an acting associate director until all certifications are completed.
  • Certification Timeline: If equivalent experience is used to meet the requirements, up to 12 months from the start date of the position will be provided to complete any missing certifications, if needed, an extension may be granted by the Vice President of the Manufactured Structures Division (MSD).                             

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in modular and manufactured home inspections, or the construction industry with a focus on quality assurance, audits, or inspections.
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and regional operations is highly desirable.
  • Extensive knowledge of modular and manufactured inspection standards and building codes.
  • Proficiency with inspection management software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to engage internal and external stakeholders effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills for evaluating reports and regional performance.
  • Effective at managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Physical and Travel Requirements: 

  • Must be able to travel to manufacturer locations and perform physical inspections including bending, kneeling, and visual inspections. 
  • Maintain a valid driver's license.
  • All staff are expected to follow company policy in selecting travel options that are both economical and efficient. Travel is a key responsibility of the role, supporting inspections, inspection meetings, and collaboration with manufacturers and stakeholders.
